Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
One of these was professionally installed, but started giving trouble almost immediately. The 2nd stage (left side) heating element would pop the thermal cut-off, and I'd have to reset it. At the same time, light brown sediment started showing up in all the hot water valves in the house; odd since I had re-piped the entire house for this project, and installed a filter.
Ultimately, the water heater stopped working entirely. I called tech support, and they had me test resistances on the unit (power off, of course), then sent me a replacement. I installed the new unit, and it worked for about a year, but now the brown sediment has started showing up in the valves again and the 2nd stage thermal protector keeps tripping. Tech support says it's because I have hard water, but they don't warn about that on the tech sheets. I'm now out all the $$$ for buying and installing, and I have to reset the unit whenever I want to take a shower or wash clothes.
They're 0 for 2, and I won't be giving them a 3rd time at bat.

Install was done by my brother. Most of the work was electrical - running the wires and installing the breakers. It works. We've not put any heavy use on it yet, so I can't comment on long term. [...] So far, so good.

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
This water heater is awesome! One thing to realize is that it must have at least 0.8 gallons per minute flowing for the flow meter in the unit to turn it on. I had my shower set too low on hot water and it turned cold while my wife kept the hot water turned more open and she never experienced any cold streams. Since then I have adjusted how I shower and have not had any cold interuptions since. Both of my kids were visting later and both took showers one after another, something that never could have been done before. Results: great "as hot a water flow as you can stand" for everyone within an hour. Simply amazing.
Installing the three 40 amp circuit breakers was a breeze, I just located some duplex 40 amp 240 volt breakers online, ordered, they got here the same day as the heater. Installed the breakers, new wiring and the heater and plumbing and we had hot water within two hours of all arriving. Also make sure that you have valves on both the inflow and hot water exits and you can easily adjust the flow.
Great unit. Takes about as long for hot water to flow to the other end of the house as the old tank water heater. I will never go back to the tank type. All my neighbors have been over, they are all going to this type unit shortly. I did buy the reconditioned unit, looked totally new and works like new.

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
This is my second unit. First one was brand new and worked great til water froze and cracked the holding tank. (My fault, was away from the house during a deep freeze w/ temps constantly below freezing.) Decided to got with a refrubish one for cost savings. Works like a new one. Took less than 30 minutes to reinstall. Intial install took longer b/c of new wiring and plumbing. Time consuming, but achievable. I would suggest to install two shut-off valves, one on each side of the inlet/outlet connectors. Makes it easier to adjust the gallons/minute adjustment to make the AE-125 work at it's best. Hot water takes a second to warm up, but it never ends. Filled up a tub with about 40 gallons of hot water for a hot bath and then turn around a take a hot shower to rinse off. Good product.

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
This reconditioned PowerStar AE-125 was purchased as a backup unit for my old original AE-125. My old unit has 3 heating tanks and this reconditioned unit has 2 heating tanks. The reconditioned AE-125 actually works better and gets hotter quicker than my original unit. Good job CPO!

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
I bought it to replace PROPANE. I know it will be cheaper to use. I bought the reconditioned product. It cost me approximately 500.00 to install after purchase price. I bought 3-40 amp breakers, wire, etc, and paid the electrician to install them. Problem we ran into was I needed a 125 amp breaker added for those 3-40 amp breakers to draw from, which was no problem. I expected it. The water seems hot enough, now, in the summer. I believe it may cool off some in the winter IF I understand how it works, but it should still be fine. Hot water available as long as you want it. It is new. At this point, I am totally pleased with my purchase. My advice: Make sure you know if you have the breaker capability and capacity you need before you start, so you will not be disappointed when you have to call the electrician. And, price electricians in advance, telling them exactly what you need done. I ran the wire from the water system to the electric box and mounted the unit. All the electrician had to do was install the breakers and additional box I needed and connect them. That was 300.00, but electricians may price out differently in your area.
