Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
Had to replace 50gal tank heater. We have two full bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. Only two at home most of the time, but frequent weekend houseguests up to 4 at a time.
Chose the AE115, because the AE125 requires 3 40amp circuits--more than we could spare. This unit is proving more than adequate. It appears to be the highest flow rate for the amperage of any units we researched (more than I want to admit) We've run two showers at once for 15 minutes with hot water to spare. (Time is really not an issue if the supply is adequate.) We have the unit set at about 65% on the heat dial.
In our farthest bathroom, it always took 60 seconds for hot water to reach the shower. The on-demand unit adds 30 seconds to reach full temperature. We think that is a trivial difference.
The unit was simple to install. (I use Sharkbite fittings on copper pipe instead of solder joints.) The hardest part was replacing a single 30amp 240v breaker and 10awg wire with two 40 amp breakers and 8awg wire. If you're locating in the same place as the old tank, your electrician can use the old wire to pull the new one(s), and as that's the time consuming part of the job, it should not be expensive to have it installed by a professional.
Regarding others' commnents on temperature fluctuation, please note: if the temp control is turned up too high, then you will find yourself mixing more cold water at the faucet to get a comfortable temperature. When you do that, you reduce the flow rate through the water heater to the point where the second element will cut in and out trying to maintain your setting. With only two elements to turn on and off, it will necessarily cause temperature fluctuation. Turn the control down so that the water that reaches the farthest bathroom is only slightly hotter than you can use without any cold mixed in, and the temperature will remain constant.
We've only had this for a little over a month, so I can't speak to durability, but it is performing beyond our expectations, and a bargain at the price.

I am not a plumber, electrician, contractor, etc. Just your average handy/not-so-handy homeowner. This unit was operational in under an hour from when I took it out of the box, which allowed me to win a bet with my wife.

Works well...but
By Bob-o

Pros
- Endless hot water
- No natural gas
Cons
- Not Hot Enough
Best Uses
- Office

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
The unit I installed works well..but the main factor to consider is ground water temp. During the summer months, it would supply all the hot water you would ever want, even with another sink or dishwasher running. When winter came, I found I had to adjust the incoming cold water flow down quite a bit for the unit to really provide hot enough water for a shower (and you do want a adjustment valve of some sort on the inlet and outlet lines, believe me). Temp adjustment is all the way up. The unit is great for getting off of nat. gas, which I want to do, before it goes way up again. I am thinking of installing a second unit, in parallel (one on each end of main hot water trunk) to keep up during winter, as two of these would be about the same as one gas heater. Additionally, probably not a job for the average homeowner to install (breakers, wiring, plumbing, etc..), but if you are familiar with electric, and have relatively easy plumbing (mine is PEX, so very easy), not a bad install (btw..their red is hot wire, blue is nuetral, for wiring). All in all, like the unit.

We use this for the "tiki hut" and outdoor shower at our swimming pool. It works well to heat water only when we need it. Easy installation -- even for a do-it-yourselfer. Would recommend for anyone needing occasional hot water.

AE115 Small Unit Performs Flawlessly

Cons
- None
Best Uses

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
This demand heater has worked flawlessly for me for over two years. It is installed as the only water heater in a guest house. It is only required to supply hot water to a shower, or one sink at a time. It provides hot water within about 90 seconds. I have it set so the outlet temperature is about 107 F in the winter months. I live in TX so the lowest inlet cold water temperature is >43 F. It works great for the intermitten use that it has seen.

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
I have installed this unit in my home. I have a small house so space is at a premium. The unit is compact, relatively light weight, and easy for the typical do-it-your selfer. I like the idea of the endless hot water as once and a while I like to take a 30-minute hot shower. Try that with a tank. The unit takes a little bit to heat up, but not long enough to warrant concern. I have enjoyed the use of this product for about 2 years now, and my energy consumption is about an average of 32% lower than past years with no change in my usage habits. If sized properly, these units work very well.

Comments about PowerStar Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater:
ITS A NICE UNIT TO DISPLAY OR BRAG ABOUT AS FAR AS LOOKS, BUT THIS UNIT ISNT STRONG ENOUGH TO GET A NICE HOT SHOWER IN THE WINTER. FOR 500.00 DOLLARS PLUS COST OF WIRING AND TIME... IM OUT OF A [$]. MAYBE I SHOULDVE STUCK WITH GAS AND BEEN HAPPY. IF POWERSTAR HAS A SOLUTION TO THE HOT WATER DEMAND ISSUE. PLEASE SHARE IT!!!!
